Favourite Male Characters in Film 3/10
Edward Rochester (Michael Fassbender) - So often, the only films I enjoy are films based on literature…and considering that most of my favorite literature is British in origin, it is no surprise that many selections on this list are from that genre. I love Rochester. On the outside, he’s everything he shouldn’t be - gruff, cold, arrogant, brimming with self-loathing. However, as is the case with every anti-hero, he possesses at least one redeeming quality, a desire to love and be loved…real, no nonsense, no pretense love. Jane sees him as he is, and he in turn falls in love with the soul behind the dress. Her plain exterior is transformed by the breath-taking beauty of her soul. And likewise, Rochester’s pile of unattractive qualities are covered by Jane’s love for him and in turn, his love for her. He’s just a great, deep, multi-faceted character.
